The goal of this project is to follow up on a vegetation survey in the Baviaanskloof Mega-reserve performed in the 1990s so as to develop a long term record of vegetation dynamics. The follow up requires locating the original vegetation monitoring plots and re-surveying species composition, cover and abundance and recording a series of descriptive and quantitative environmental variables. The programme works towards a sector that is socially equitable and has a suitably skilled workforce of biodiversity leaders, professionals and technicians to optimally implement the sector's expanding and increasingly complex mandate. Its focus is on higher level skills in biodiversity research, management and conservation. The implementation activities of this strategy are driven by four overarching strategic goals (SGs) and seven cross-cutting strategic objectives (SOs)- click here for a summary. The BHCDS funding partner, the Lewis Foundation and SANBI , is calling for partners who are able to assist with the implementation of the BHCD Programme. We welcome submissions from employees in biodiversity and environmental organisations and/or from consultants, who are keen to assist the programme. The workplace based upskilling project's purpose is to address a two-fold need for improving the skills of technicians and professionals currently employed in biodiversity organisations, and improving organisations' ability to provide relevant and effective training to employees. It supports strategic goal two of the BHCDS which focuses on improving the quality and relevance of skills produced for the sector Eligibility and Assessment Criteria: The project executant must be based in South Africa. She/he must have: * An understanding of workplace based upskilling; * Experience with the biodiversity-related work of the organisations in the sector; and * Contacts and familiarity with the sector in order to attract participation from organisations Project specific information is detailed in the Call for EoIs (see pdf file and our website ). Submissions received will be considered and assessed by the core management team of the BHCD Programme. All submissions must be sent to the Programme Director, Ms Renee Le Roux by email (r.leroux at sanbi.org.za). The closing date is 31 August 2011. Ineligible, incomplete and late submissions will not be considered. You are welcome to address all enquiries to: Renee Le Roux (Tel: 012 843 5092, Email: r.leroux at sanbi.org.za , Cell: 0824477071) We look forward to your submissions.
