FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES
SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES AND DEVELOPMENT Junior Scientific Officer / Scientific Officer in Botany Minimum requirements are the following:
— Appropriate honours or master's degree in Botany and/or Horticulture — Approximately 2-5 years experience in the management and/or operation of botanical gardens — Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as e-mail and internet — Proven relevant research record — Sound knowledge of the South African flora and enthusiasm for its conservation — Appropriate technical skills for managing the botanical garden – cultivating of plants, glass house management, irrigation, etc. — Excellent communication and marketing skills, and the ability to “sell” the vision for the garden — Good staff management and leadership skills, including assertiveness and accountability — Good interpersonal relations and the ability to work together with staff on different levels — Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
