They were not successful in their first advertising campaign, and are re-advertising the post. Warm regards Wendy ---------------------------------- *FRENCH-SPEAKING RESEARCHER, DATA ANALYST and REPORT-WRITER required for C4 ECOSOLUTIONS* *April 2013* *C4 EcoSolutions, a consulting company that specialises in climate change, conservation, carbon and community development projects, is seeking a FRENCH-SPEAKING researcher, data analyst and report-writer. The C4 team of climate change and environmental professionals is based in Tokai, Cape Town, South Africa. C4 operates in more than 30 countries across Africa and Asia, including Francophone countries such as Djibouti, Niger, Mauritania, Madagascar and Democratic Republic of Congo. Fluency in French is therefore required to develop and implement projects in these countries.* *Background*: ?C4 EcoSolutions (www.c4es.co.za ) operates at the forefront of the international stage -- in both the private and public sectors -- in the emerging fields of climate change adaptation and mitigation. ?The international community has committed billions of dollars to climate change initiatives, and at present there is a relative scarcity of experts available to design and implement innovative projects that develop synergies between conserving ecosystems and developing poor, rural communities. ?C4 has developed considerable experience in such projects across Africa and Asia, through work conducted with the United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Environment Programme, Food and Agriculture Organisation, the International Finance Corporation and numerous other international private sector clients. ?In addition to developing, implementing and monitoring climate change/conservation/community projects, C4 conducts ecological research and publishes papers in international peer-reviewed journals. ?The company is in the process of expanding its operations and requires at least one French-speaking staff member to assist with projects in Francophone countries. We therefore welcome applicants who are fluent in French and who have scientific research, statistical data analysis and report-writing skills. It is preferable that applicants have all three of these skills, but applicants with two of the skills will be considered. Fluency in French, however, is essential. *Responsibilities will include /inter alia/*: ?Writing consulting reports that are of an exceptional standard in terms of presentation, technical content, grammar, syntax and style. These will need to be written in both English and French. ?Assisting C4 staff with the provision of technical advice to project implementers and consultants at the national level in French-speaking countries including Djibouti and Niger. ?Traveling to French- and English-speaking countries to collect information for developing and implementing projects on adaptation to climate change in Africa and Asia. The work C4 is undertaking at present includes /inter alia/ developing and/or implementing: omangrove restoration projects in Djibouti, Myanmar and Bangladesh; oagriculture and land restoration projects in Mauritania, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Lesotho; oprivate sector projects in Niger, Zambia and Mozambique, including large-scale conservation projects in miombo woodlands, REDD+ projects, microfinance and weather index-based insurance schemes, mobile phone platforms that deliver weather/market information, and watershed protection projects with hydro-power operators; oa regional adaptation project for the Chinese government, including interventions in Mauritania, Seychelles and Nepal; otropical forest restoration projects in Cambodia, Nepal and Myanmar; oprojects on Early Warning Systems in Myanmar, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi and Uganda; olarge-scale restoration projects in degraded thicket landscapes in the Eastern Cape using carbon funding. *Qualifications and experience*:** ?Appropriate university degree/s. ?A deep interest in conservation, development and climate change. ?Exceptional English writing skills. ?Fluency in French and exceptional French writing skills. ?Exceptional statistical analysis skills, for example in the programme R, will be an added advantage. ?An understanding of financial and business models will also be an advantage. *Remuneration*: Dependent on work experience and qualifications. *Applications*:** Please send an email and CV to Mike Jennings (mike.jennings at c4es.co.za ). The recruitment process will entail an interview and a writing test. There are no deadlines for applications. The recruitment process ends once the position is filled and work can commence immediately. the position will be based in Cape Town.
