REQUIREMENTS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

SANBI requires an energetic, motivated individual with proven ability to provide leadership at the Compton Herbarium; to provide management, guidance and mentorship for technical staff of the Compton Herbarium; to manage collections and infrastructure, including biosystematics data content; to curate and research a priority component of Southern Africa flora; and to manage the implementation of Strategic and Annual Performance Plans where these relate to the Compton Herbarium Collection.



The successful candidate must be in possession of an MSc or PhD in Plant Sciences, preferably taxonomy, enhanced by at least 10 years' experience in collections management. The incumbent will demonstrate excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written); including report writing and the ability to maintain sound interpersonal relationships.  In addition, the candidate must be proficient in MS Office and in possession of a valid (unendorsed) Code B drivers' license (with minimum of one yea's practical driving experience)

The appointee will be responsible for:

·         Leading and managing the Compton Herbarium collection according to standards, procedures and policies and to set targets in Division's Annual Performance Plan and Corporate Strategic Plan;

·         Biosystematics data content leadership;

·         Centre administration and project management;

·         Managing and coordinating the provision of Herbarium services e.g. identifications;

·         Leading and managing the curation of collections (and associated data) according to standards, procedures and policies; participation in set targets in the Annual Performance Plan and Corporate Strategic Plan;

·         Conducting relevant research and capacity building;

·         Ensuring employees work in a healthy and safe environment and that the Herbarium's activities comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.



SANBI offers an annual salary package of R587 358.00.
