The University of KwaZulu-Natal is one of the top Universities in South
Africa and in the top 500 Universities globally. The School of Life
Sciences has a long-standing tradition in research and teaching in
Biochemistry particularly in the areas of proteolytic enzymes in human
and animal disease, malaria, stem cells and Biochemistry education. The
incumbent will provide added strength to the School’s research and
teaching programmes. S/he will be expected to contribute to teaching at
undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as contribute towards
administrationwithin the School. S/he will also be expected to actively
contribute to research in any field of Biochemistry and supervise
postgraduate students.
The incumbent will report to the Academic Leader: Biotechnology.
**
*Minimum Requirements*:
*Senior Lecturer*
·PhD degree in Biochemistry
·Experience in teaching at a tertiary institution
·Successful supervision of postgraduate research students (MSc and/or
PhD) in a relevant field of study
·Current research record as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed
ISI/DoHET accredited journals appropriate for the level
·Demonstrated ability to attract external research funds
*Lecturer*
·A Masters degree by research in Biochemistry
·Two years post Masters research experience
·Current research activity as evidenced by a quality publication in a peer-
reviewed journal
·Experience in teaching/tutoring at a tertiary institution.
In respect of appointment at Lecturer level, the successful candidate
will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years from assumption of duty.
