Hi all, I wanted to flag a really exciting opportunity for someone you might know. President Obama has prioritized an investment in emerging African leadership as one of his top legacy programs. Right now the US is recruiting for a leadership fellowship program that involves some learning in the the US, mentorship and internship opportunities. While we are still working out the mentorship/internship piece, I really think that the program might offer some life-changing opportunities for some folks, as I've heard of the caliber of international and local mentors that are interested in participating in the program. I have a personal interest in seeing some environmental folks benefit from this program. South Africa has a large number of slots, but every country in the SADC region does as well. I know each of you knows someone who has tremendous potential --please, please encourage them to apply online. Participation will be funded. The criteria are listed below as well as a link to the site where folks can get information and also where they can apply. Doreen Doreen L. On request of Ambassador Anders Hagelberg, I would like to send a reminder of the 10 FULL SCHOLARSHIPS (tuition fees plus living expenses, travel costs, etc.) that the Government of Sweden will be offering per year for South African students to master programs in Sweden (these are the eligible programs, sorted by University), starting in August/September 2014. (Applicants must hold a bachelor?s degree from a South African university.) Please note that applications to Swedish Masters programs have to be submitted no later than 15 January 2014 and that the application period for the scholarship is 3-11 February. I realize this is short notice for your students to apply. However, it may be worthwhile noting that the information about this has been made available very late and that chances are good for those who apply. And also that applications can be made online, making it possible for students to complete applications on time. We would be delighted if you could share this information with your students, especially if there are some outstanding ones you think have made themselves worthy of a scholarship of this kind. Please find more about the scholarship and application process here. For any queries, please ask your students to contact Helena Pietersen at the Embassy on helena.pietersen at gov.se or 012- 426 6452. Wishing all applicants best of luck and looking forward to the exchange of experience and knowledge that this would result in!
