Dear Students,

Zoological Society of Southern Africa (ZSSA) is offering PHD and MSc
bursaries: More details follow:

The functional biogeography of invasions in the Antarctic region

SANAP Studentships available: 1 x MSc & 1 x PhD

We are looking for a highly motivated MSc and PhD student to study
invasion trajectories of alien plants in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic
region. Despite the fact that alien species are a major conservation
threat in the Antarctic, little is known about what determines whether
alien arrivals become successful invaders to the region. Successful
applicants will thus implement a trait-based approach to understand the
alien invasion trajectory and potential invasion risks in the Antarctic.

The successful candidates will be based in the Plant Science Department
at the University of Pretoria, which is developing a focus on
distribution patterns of plants in the greater Antarctic region on both
local and regional scales. Candidates will both be collecting field data
and working on larger existing databases. The successful candidates must
be able to start in January or February 2015.

To apply for the position, please send a cover letter outlining your
research interests and suitability for the position, a CV (including the
names of two referees), and scanned copies of your academic records to
sanapprojects at gmail.com. Please include the text “Functional
biogeography application” and the position you are applying (i.e. MSc or
PhD) in the subject line of your email.

Deadline for applications: 14 November 2014

Value of bursaries:

R65 000 p.a. (PhD);

R40 000 p.a. (MSc)

sanapprojects(a)gmail.com
