Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stellenbosch University: Department of Botany and Zoology

A Stellenbosch University postdoctoral position is available to conduct stock structure analyses of the two economically important South African hake species, Merluccius capensis and M. paradoxus. The project will utilize SNP markers to augment recent mtDNA and microsatellite analyses conducted on >3000 fish samples collected over a period of 3 years. A comparative approach between the two species will be used to determine and explain the genetic stock structure evident in these taxa.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a recent PhD (awarded in the last 3-5 years) and have experience in using genetic techniques to study marine stock structure. Applicants must also have a proven publication track record in the field. Experience in Next-Generation SNP discovery and analyses will be advantageous.

Value:

The fellowship of R185 000 per year is offered for a period of one year. Additional co-funding to a maximum of R80 000 will be provided based on experience of applicant.  Full running costs for the project is available.
