Subject: [saabnet] Funding for Study of Oldenburgia grandis at Rhodes University

Oldenburgia grandis is an iconic tree-forming daisy restricted to rocky outcrops in a small part of the Eastern Cape in the vicinity of Grahamstown. It is associated with a distinct assemblage of plants found growing on Quartzite outcrops,
but little else is known about its biology. A number of adult plants are due to be disturbed to make way for the widening of the N2 road near Grahamstown. This study will aim to inform and monitor the success of translocating these plans. To investigate alternative
approaches to re-establishing populations from seed, the reproductive biology of this species will also be examined.

Applications should reach Dr Craig Peter via email (c.peter@ru.ac.za) by 16 Dec 2013. The study
will commence in January 2014 and will be co-supervised by Dr Susi Vetter.
