After every study break comes a new block of new topics to be shared at the Undergraduate Astrophysics Interest Group. This week we will revise some basic notions that we now take for granted since they seem so trivial. Linking into the coding portion we will simulate some equations we've all worked with and move on to actually visualising them using some data analysis and visualisation application. We look forth to seeing you all and sharing ideas. Enjoy all your great rewards, Siphiwe From Siphiwe.Thwala at students.wits.ac.za Tue Sep 16 15:55:27 2014 From: Siphiwe.Thwala at students.wits.ac.za (Siphiwe Thwala) Date: Tue, 16 Sep 2014 15:55:27 +0200 (SAST) Subject: [Astrophysics] Astrophysics Interest Group. The group meets every Wednesday during lunch in Senate House, Mathematical Sciences Undergraduate Lab, Lab 3. Materials have been designed to offer something for everyone. If you simply want to sit back, relax, and listen passively, the first half of each session is a general presentation and discussion. For those of you that want to get your hands dirty, the second half of each session looks at a computational problem with code. The code examples vary from mildly challenging to very involved - so all skill levels are catered for. We start tomorrow. Please see the poster attached. Hope to see you there. Take Care. I know we are all sad and I certainly hope we all know what holiday it is morrow, now on to the serious stuff. We are always discussing how we model some phenomenon we know and testing if this is in accord with what we expect. For this week we thought we should look at Computational versus Analytic Methods. http://www.scholarpedia.org/article/Computational_astrophysics print "Hello world:)", Siphiwe From Siphiwe.Thwala at students.wits.ac.za Mon Sep 29 16:46:17 2014 From: Siphiwe.Thwala at students.wits.ac.za (Siphiwe Thwala) Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2014 16:46:17 +0200 (SAST) Subject: [Astrophysics] For your Interest.
