    The Royal Society-DFID Africa Capacity Building Initiative is a £15.3
million partnership initiative between the Royal Society and the Department
for International Development (DFID). The initiative will bring together
scientists working across sub-Saharan Africa with UK-based researchers
aiming to strengthen research and training capacity across sub-Saharan
Africa by creating sustainable scientific networks. This Initiative will
concentrate on three research areas:    • Water & sanitation • Renewable
energy • Soil-related research    The website provides further information

     The Initiative is currentlyopen for the 2nd round of Programme Grant
applicationson the Royal Society’s eGAP2 website (
https://e-gap.royalsociety.org). The Programme Grants will offer funding
for research consortia to undertake research as well as provide research
training over a period of five years. There will be up to 5 Programme Grant
awards available in this round and each award is up to£1,243,000. The
deadline for approved application for this round isThursday 19 March 2015
and the application must be commenced by the UK-based researcher using an
access code, which needs to be obtained from the Royal Society (email
