Listeria Outbreak associated with certain Blue Bell brand ice cream

Dear all,

PulseNet USA has been investigating an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections associated with certain Blue Bell brand ice cream products. Isolation dates range from January 14, 2014?January 23, 2015. To date, 5 cases have been reported with four different PFGE patterns. Three of these PFGE patterns have also been found among isolates from Blue Bell ice cream products. Four additional PFGE patterns have been identified among isolates from ice cream products. Whole genome sequencing of 4 clinical isolates and a subset of isolates from ice cream indicate that all are closely related. This investigation is ongoing and further testing is underway.

Blue Bell Creameries has withdrawn certain ice cream products from the market. Some of these products were reportedly distributed to Mexico and Belize.

We have included TIFF files with the involved AscI and ApaI PFGE patterns and a bundle file with additional details. Also, Whole Genome Sequence IDs. We are interested to know if other countries have detected these patterns since January of 2014, and we would appreciate if you could investigate possible matches in your databases.

Thank you very much for your help,

Jeny
