PulseNet International Collaboration Centre Message posted in forum "Outbreaks and Urgent Notifications". AUTHOR: Jeniffer Concepcion-Acevedo US Salmonella Montevideo Infections Linked to Wonderful Pistachios distributed Internationally CDC is collaborating with public health officials in multiple states and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Montevideo and infections. A total of 11 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Montevideo have been reported from 9 states. Illnesses started on dates ranging from December 12, 2015 to February 9, 2016. Ill people range in age from 9 years to 69, with a median age of 31. Recent laboratory testing isolated the outbreak strain of Salmonella Montevideo and Salmonella Senftenberg from samples of raw pistachios collected from Paramount Farms, where Wonderful pistachios are grown. On March 9, 2016, Wonderful Pistachios voluntarily recalled a limited number of flavors and sizes of in-shell and shelled pistachios because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The pistachios were sold under the brand names Wonderful, Paramount Farms, and Trader Joe's and were sold nationwide and in Canada, Mexico, and Peru. We included a BioNumerics bundle file with the PFGE patterns of Salmonella Montevideo and Salmonella Senftenberg that is associated with this outbreak. We also have sequencing information for isolates that belong to this outbreak.? Please, let us know if you have seen any recent matches. Anthony The PulseNet USA cost benefit paper that has been under way for 7-8 years and that you have all heard about but not seen is finally out. We believe the estimates we have come up with are low estimates of the benefits but still a 70 x return on investment isn't bad. I have attached it and a more layman friendly explanation can be seen for example here: http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2016/03/researchers-say-pulsenet-reaches-f ar-beyond-outbreak-control/#.VulM2_LVxmM Brent, this paper should be added to the PulseNet International web-site.
