Dear SAHS members:
The South African Historical Journal is seeking a new Reviews Editor. The reviews editor manages the solicitation, review, and acceptance process for book reviews and longer review essays published by the SAHJ. Duties include identifying appropriate titles for review and corresponding with publishers to ensure that the SAHJ receives review copies, identifying potential reviewers and assigning books to scholars with particular expertise in the subject matter, sending books to reviewers and following up with them until submission, providing editing for style and form for submitted reviews, finding peer reviewers for review essays, selecting reviews for particular journal issues, and organising the sequence of reviews within a given issue together with the editorial collective.
The role requires excellent organisational and time management skills, regular (weekly) commitment to the editorial work, and being in a position to receive and dispatch books by postal services. (The Southern African Historical Society will cover the costs of shipping books to reviewers)
We invite applications from those with a keen interest in the aims of the SAHJ (see http://www.tandfonline.com/rshj20). While this position is unpaid, the role offers scope for career development and to make an important contribution to an international journal. The current Book Reviews Editor, Dr Prinisha Badassy, will provide support in the initial stages of the role.
