Masters scholarship:  Opportunities for social-ecological transformation in
the Sundays River Valley, South Africa

Department of Environmental Science and the Institute for Water Research,
Rhodes University

An imaginative and inspired masters student is sought who is a systems
thinker and interested in historical research that covers both social and
ecological systems. The successful candidate will explore long term
social-ecological change in the Sundays River Valley, identify key drivers
of change over time, and use this analysis to build future scenarios for the
catchment. This will be an action research project in which key stakeholders
will be engaged throughout the research process. The successful candidate
will therefore be interested in change-oriented research.

Scholarship: R80 000 for two years, plus fieldwork expenses covered
