The Department of Botany and Zoology is recognised, both nationally and internationally, for its research on various aspects of biodiversity science, evolution and ecology. The Department offers a stimulating academic environment with excellent facilities. The current research programmes and teaching curriculum explore cutting edge issues within Ecology and Evolution. The Department recognises the symbiosis between quality research and teaching.

Duties: 
•Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Botany and Zoology related subjects 
•recruiting and supervising postgraduate students at Honours, MSc and PhD levels 
•active research with sustained scientific publishing in one of the research fields currently on offer in the Department (for more information see http://academic.sun.ac.za/botzoo/research.htm) 
•involvement with and contribution to the broader community 
•active contribution to Departmental and University-wide administrative responsibilities. 

  

Requirements: 
•PhD in Biological Sciences related to Botany and Zoology 
•proven ability to provide academic leadership 
•international recognition for the quality of research outputs in the Botanical or Zoological field 
•excellent track record in teaching and postgraduate supervision 
•track record of contributing towards academic administrative responsibilities 
•a proven track record of attracting research funding 
•proficiency to teach in English and a willingness to operate in a multilingual environment 
•willingness to contribute to community service. 

  

Recommendations: 
•Language proficiency in both English and Afrikaans 
•research interests that fit within the current research focus areas of the Department of Botany and Zoology.
