Dear colleagues:

There are more exciting things coming with 'African Studies in the Digital Age'. The full program is here:

http://ii.umich.edu/asc/initiatives/africanheritageinitiativeahi/africanstudiesinthedigitalage_ci

Coming up:

** On Monday at 10 am, Tara McPherson, from the University of South California, will talk about 'Digital Architecture'. McPherson is among the more interesting scholars working in the field: she's the founding editor of Vectors, a multi-media scholarly journal, and is one of the organizers of Race in Digital Space, a multi-year project supported by the Annenberg Center for Communication. This session will take place in the Erlicher Room, North Quad.

** On Monday at 2 pm there will be a three-part panel featuring work in the digital humanities at the UM. Martha Jones (History) will discuss the Law in Slavery and Freedom Project; Kelly Askew (DAAS and Anthro), David Wallace (SI) and Paul Conway (SI) will discuss the exciting Leo Sarkisian music archive; and Akosua Ampofo and Judith Opuku-Boateng (University of Ghana) will discuss archive work at the Institute of African Studies. **NOTE that this session will take place in the Henderson Room, in the Michigan League. **

** On Tuesday at 4:00 there will be a very exciting panel about 'Publishing in and about Africa', featuring some of the most prominent figures in the field of African Studies book publishing. The panel features Gill Berchowitz, Director of the Ohio University Press (which has the largest Africa list of any American publisher); James Tumusiime, owner of Fountain Publishers (Eastern Africa's biggest academic publisher); and Alexander Bangirana, Head of Publications and Dissemination at CODESRIA. We will hear also from Charles Watkinson, who is Director of the University of Michigan Press. This session will take place at the Erlicher Room, North Quad.

Do please join us for any of the above.
