Dear colleagues:

After a very exciting three days, 'African Studies in the Digital Age' continues on Thursday and Friday this week. The full programme is here:

http://ii.umich.edu/asc/initiatives/africanheritageinitiativeahi/africanstudiesinthedigitalage_ci

Coming up:

** On Thursday at 10 am: a workshop with Sharon Leon, from the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, on 'Public History'. The Rosenzweig Center is (among other things) the place where Zotero, the research program that some of us use, was born.

** On Thursday at 2 pm: Dean Rehberger and Peter Alegi, of Michigan State University, will talk about MATRIX, the center for digital humanities research at MSU.

** On Thursday at 3 pm: I will talk about the history of archival practice in Uganda, and about the contemporary labors of archival preservation in which I have been involved (with colleagues from Mountains of the Moon University).

** On Friday at 10 am: a panel on 'Teaching and Research', with Angel Nieves, from the Digital Humanities Initiative at Hamilton College; and Bruce Janz, from the Center for Humanities and Digital Research at the University of Central Florida.

** On Friday at 2 pm: a panel on journalism in the digital medium, featuring Dinesh Balliah, of the Wits School of Journalism; and Peter Limb, Africana librarian at Michigan State University.

All events take place in the Erlicher Room, in the North Quad.

All good wishes,

Derek
